Una delle cose che chi è abituato a Second Life nota subito quando vede immagini tratte da altri mondi virtuali come The Sims è la minore flessibilità, la minore espressività degli avatar disponibili su altre piattaforme rispetto a quella della Linden Lab.

Una sfida in più per gli artisti, perché debbono decidere se sfruttare questa relativa inespressività per creare immagini che la fruttino opportunamente o se cercare di utilizzare i toni, gli sfondi, la ricchezza di dettagli dell’immagine per riuscire con un solo scatto a ricreare la storia di quel singolo avatar/giocatore.

Che esattamente come in Second Life si sarà creato una sua storia, una sua vita, una sua rete di relazioni, eventi, sentimenti, da far filtrare fino allo spettatore che nulla sa di lui fino a quando non osserva l’immagine.

Tra i Koinupper amanti di queste piattaforme, Cactus (ancora una volta la mia preferenza va ad un artista che utilizza in prevalenza gli avi di The Sims ma gli appassionati di Second Life non disperino: la prossima settimana toccherà a uno di loro) sembra scegliere la seconda strada, creando immagini fortemente caratterizzate con un sapiente uso della luce e dei colori, oltre che dell’ambientazione.

Così gli amanti di Untouched colti nel momento di massima intimità ci suggeriscono una storia totalmente diversa da quella vissuta dalla misteriosa donna di Pink Winter, a metà tra luce ed ombra, tra toni caldi e romantici e il nero totale.

E certamente il demone di Charger of Ended Loves pare più tormentato dell’allegra diavolessa-DJ di Just Dance, mentre i toni si fanno gelidi e rarefatti in Drownin’ In Broken Dreams.

Coi suoi lavoro Cactus ci ricorda dunque che la grafica, e l’arte in genere, è più nell’occhio dell’artista che negli strumenti a sua disposizione e che la fantasia e la passione sono il vero medium che ogni creativo utilizza per far giungere il suo messaggio a chi osserva le sue creazioni.

Cactus: Art is in the artist’s eye
One of the things people used to Second Life immediately notice when they see images from other virtual worlds like The Sims is less flexibility, fewer expression of avatars available on other platforms than those of Linden Lab.

This is just another challenge for artists, because they must decide if to utilize this relative lack of expression to create images that use it properly or to try to use the tones, backgrounds, richness of detail of the image to be able with a single shot to recreate the story of that single avatar / player.

That just like in Second Life will create its own history, its life, its relationships, events, feelings, to be filtered up to the viewer who knows nothing of him until he/she see the image.

Among Koinuppers who loves these platforms, Cactus (http://www.koinup.com/cactus) (again my preference is for an artist who prefer to use The Sims avi, mainly, but fans of Second Life do not despair: next week I will choose one of you) seems to opt for the second option, creating images with strong characterization thanks to a sage use of light and color, as well as the setting.

So Untouched Lovers caught in the moment of greatest intimacy, suggest a story completely different from that experienced by the mysterious woman of Pink Winter, halfway between light and shadow, between warm and romantic and total black.

And certainly the demon of Charger Ended Loves seems more troubled of the happy devil-DJ of Just Dance, while the tones you are cold and rarefied in Drownin’ In Broken Dreams.

So Cactus with his works reminds us that the graphics and Art in general, is in the eye of an artist more than in the instruments at his disposal and that the imagination and passion are the real medium that any creative uses to convey his/her message to those who observe his/her creations.
